In celebration of International Women’s Day, I wanted to bring attention to this video that was sent to me by a friend of mine on Facebook (Thanks, Whitney Chase). I saw a lot of talk about this on my timeline but hadn’t seen it yet. When I finally did see it, I was nearly brought to tears. This is a perfect example of our younger generation of women taking charge and fighting for women’s rights in 2011.
The video received some heat about whether the group truly wrote the song themselves or not. However in my honest opinion, it doesn’t matter if the girls received help. For them to even have the courage to perform a song like this is inspiring. Do you see anyone else taking a stand against women being called everything else but a daughter of God in music? NO. We all are still running and shaking our tail feathers to this mess on the dance floor. Check out the video below:
The video is a song called “Letter to Wayne” written by a group of three Baltimore girls called Watoto From the Nile. The song confronts Wayne on his mistreatment of women in his music all while empowering and embracing our existence.
The video received 770,355 views so far and is getting a lot of buzz in all media. Now stop that!
Happy International Women’s Day…and ladies…let’s keep being the amazing gifts from God that we are.
