MOVIE TRAILER: “How to Make Money Selling Drugs”

Why struggle working a nine to five when you can sell a couple ounces and make a mil a week? Notorious rappers from Biggie Smalls to Young Jeezy have already put us on to the tricks of the drug trade through their music. However writer and directer Matthew Cooke has sought to break down the science of selling drugs to us via the big screen in his latest documentary, “How to Make Money Selling Drugs”. Now I know that this sounds like a corny Youtube video waiting to go viral, but the interviews Cooke grabber from sources such as drug kingpin “Freeway” Rick Ross, 50 Cent, and more make me want to tune in get the behind the scenes scoop on the drug game.

This 96 minute documentary makes its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, September 7; Sunday, September 9; and Sunday, September 16.

Ice-T Presents ‘Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap’

How does a rapper write his lyrics? What is the thought process? How are geniuses like Raekwon and Eminem created? Ice-T answers these questions in his directorial debut with the documentary ‘Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap’, set to hit theaters in June 2012. Rap moguls including Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One, Run DMC, and more are interviewed about journey through the art of rap.

“It’s not a movie just for rap fans; it’s a movie for anyone who’s curious about the art…it’s not for a rap hater, though. If you don’t like [rap], you’ll go into the movie and hate it even worse.”-Ice T.

NEW MUSIC LEAK: Lil Wayne “Dear Anne (Stan Part 2)” Prod. by Swizz Beatz

Lil Wayne shows appreciation to his biggest fan with an intimate letter in “Dear Anne”, the latest single to leak off of ”Tha Carter IV” (release date is August 28). The song  is a spinoff of Eminem’s “Stan” (2000), which covered the topic of fans who are dangerously obssessed with their favorite artists. In Eminem’s version the crazed fan takes himself and his pregnant girlfriend out after he his role model delays responding to his letters. But Wayne flipped the script by opening up to “Anne” and even apologizing for what happened to Stan almost 10 years ago: “I hope I see you in the stands Anne/Because you know I understand Anne/And I’m sorry about Stan/So I wrote this to say I’m you’re number one fan.”

The Idolator states that there was some he-say, she-say in the media about Swizz Beatz originally producing the track for Eminem and him refusing to do it. This is what Swizzy had to say to MTV last September about the rumor:

“For Eminem’s Relapse, I submitted a beat to him called ‘Stan 2′. When I was doing an interview and they said, ‘What you working on?’ Em was amongst the people in the lineup I submitted things for. I said, ‘I did a track for Em called Stan 2.’ So it got out of hand in the media… he didn’t want to do ‘Stan 2′. But what I have on my album is a song called ‘Anne’ with Wayne, which is crazy… the way that Wayne tells Anne he’s sorry what happened to Stan. The album is crazy.”

So what do yall think? Stan or Anne?

Remembering Nate Dogg (August 19, 1969-March 15, 2011)

We all know and love that smooth baritone placed perfectly on the hook of a West Coast track with hot ass rappers like Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Warren G. Well that voice left us to return home on yesterday, March 15, 2011.

Nathaniel D. Hale, better know as Nate Dogg, died yesterday at the tender age of 41. His cause of death has not yet been released.

What we do know, reported from Access Atlanta via Long Beach (Calif.) Press-Telegram, is that the rapper suffered two strokes-one in 2007 and 2008.

Nate Dogg was mostly known for collaborating with some of the top hip hop artist in the game, the most recent being his 2007 collabo with Eminem in “Shake That”. He earned four Grammy nominations, one for his collabo with Ludacris in “Area Codes”.

In rememberance of Nate Dogg, here is one of my favorite collabos with him, Snoop, and Dr. Dre in “The Next Episode”.

Chrisette Michele Puts Hip Hop and Rick Ross On Blast

The Soul Train Music Awards aired last night and somebody left a little HEATED! Rick Ross left the ceremony EARLY after he lost to Eminem in the “Bst Hip Hop Song” category. “Aston Martin Music”, featuring Ross himself and Chrisette Michele, was nominated for the category, and the two were scheduled to perform the song. Well obviously that never happened due to Ross’s storm out, and Ms. Michele didn’t take that Ross’s response too well!

Singer’s Room reports that Chrisette took to her Tumblr account and wrote this:

If this is the way hip hop is then I denounce it.

This is not about ego. This is about what I can bring to the world. My life is for the people. I live to give. It’s my desire to bring life and freedom light and love everywhere I go. Upward mobility in the brown skinned community.

Who stands off at an award show because they don’t win? An award is winning at being as “stuck in a category” as possible. Congratulations to all the trophy holders who won at being the most like every one else.

I could have sworn hip hop was on the come up. But apparently rapping is about venting, bashing, chauvinistic pigging, and EGO. Not cool. Don’t LET me start rapping. (album in stores november 30th) They say…I’m ecclectic. I’m underrated. I’m different. Well If I win an award it’s because I paved a way. Every award I’ve won was new in it’s category. You know why? Because I’m amazing at being my damn self.

Grammy – best alternative R&B song Centric award – Soul Approved Etc.

Have u even heard of those categories? Nope. But guess what? You ain’t never seen another me. And u never will. No ego here. Why? Because it’s none needed. My award is waking up every morning and CAKING off of what I believe in by the grace of God.

LET FREEDOM REIGN – in stores NOVEMBER 30th. Go pick that up.

Maybe I’ll call my 4th album “winners : just like every body else” maybe not.

I pray with every song I sing Im singing from the bottom of my heart. If all we want is an award for telling our truths, then we really have no true reason. This isn’t a competition. This is a stage for self expression and I’m grateful for the opportunity to live on it. I’d sing even if nobody sang along.

-from the bottom of my disappointed heart. Hip Hop… Man up. I wanted to be supportive but I can’t understand you. I believed in you… But apparently you’re so high you can’t even see what the world needs.

Is all hip hop like that? Absolutely not! But some of it certainly is. Let me spit a few bars. I’m not that kinda hip hop. I rep hip hop too. But not that kinda ego trippin foolery.

Chrisette Michele – the girl on that Aston Martin Music record…

Spread love.

You tell em Chrisette! I think she is absolutely right, Hip Hop has gotten way too arrogant. Somebody needs to change the game!

Nicki Minaj ft. Eminem “Roman’s Revenge”

The countdown has begun until Nicki Minaj’s first album, “Pink Friday”, drops in stores on November 21st. Here is a sample of what you will be listening to if you buy the CD. I gotta admit I’m definitley feeling the song, but I’m still trying to get used to her random voice changes :sigh: We’ve also heard through the rumor mill that she could be making jabs at Lil Kim in some of her bars, for example when she says:

“I’m starting to feel like a dungeon dragon/Look at my show footage how these girls be spazzin’, Wha the f*ck I look like gettin’ back to a has-been/Yeah I said it…Has Been/Hang it Up…Flat Screen” (Thanks, YBF)

If this is true, isn’t it a little LATE to be coming back at Queen B? O well, let us know what you think of the track!
