Jill Scott- New Record Label, New Music, New Video

Yall know how much I love me some Jill. She puts it down in the music game with her soulful voice and ecclectic style everytime!

So much newness is going on for the songstress: she just shot a video for her new single “Shame” in her hometown of Philly, and her new album The Light of the Sun will be debuted early this summer by her new record label, Warner Bros.

CNN covered the story of how Philly divas Jill Scott and Eve (featured on “Shame”) took to a local rec center on order to shoot the video for Jill’s first single. Jill illustrated some of the experiences she had at the rec while growing up and shared with us the story behind the rec being threatened to close down.

The new single has a nice up tempo flavor to it, one of Jill’s hits that will make you want to wave your hand in the air. Check it out:

However, her old label Hidden Beach doesn’t seem to be too happy about her leaving, as they will be releasing a compilation unreleased material from Jill, including the following tune called “Lovely Day”. The song is a remake of the classic song by Bill Withers.
Check it out below:

What do you think about the newness from Jill? Do you think she will do better with her new record label?

Student at Ease, Finds Family in Japan via Youtube

Akiko Kosaka, a student from Japan attending University of California at Riverside, feared for her family with the tsunami that hit her fishing village of Minami Sanriku last week where more than half of the 17,000 residents are missing and feared dead. For three days she religiously searched the web in hopes to find some information on the whereabouts of her family. She received an email that her younger sister Yukako, 13, was likely safe in her middle school’s shelter. But she wasn’t fully relieved, she needed to find out if her parents, paternal grandparents, and older sister who all live under one roof were safe.

“I didn’t think they survived,” Kosaka, 20, told CNN during a tearful interview Tuesday. “I cried for three days — Friday, Saturday, Sunday.”

Finally she received word Sunday night from a friend in Japan of a 45 second video on YouTube showing her family home as the only one standing among the the rubble and debris. The video showed her older sister holding a sign to TV news crew saying in Japanese, “We are all safe.” She screamed with a sigh of relief and was happy to tell her host parents in Riverside, that her family survived. This is truly a touching story, let’s continue to keep Japan in our prayers.
